Wooden Survey Tripod
The yellow wooden tripod. Heavier than aluminium, steadier in wind, and the one to put a level on for a long run.

Wooden Survey Tripod
Wood damps vibration in a way aluminium does not, and it does not expand and contract through the day the way a metal leg will. For levelling runs, long observations and windy exposed sites, the wooden tripod is still the right answer. Flat head, with the usual central fixing screw.
