Road roller price in Pakistan in 2026 runs from about PKR 675,000 to 1,900,000 for a walk-behind double drum vibratory roller, PKR 2,500,000 to 3,200,000 for a medium 3 to 4 ton ride-on, and PKR 6,000,000 and above for a heavy 10 to 18 ton single drum or pneumatic roller. These are indicative market ranges; we quote by WhatsApp.
Rollers are bought by weight class, and the class you need depends entirely on what you are compacting and how thick the layer is. This guide gives the market prices by class, explains which drum compacts which material, and runs the new versus used versus hire arithmetic honestly.
Road roller price in Pakistan by class

| Class | Operating weight | Drum type | Indicative market price (PKR) | Typical job |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Walk-behind double drum, petrol | 500 to 750 kg | Two smooth vibrating drums | 675,000 to 1,100,000 | Pavements, patches, trench backfill |
| Walk-behind double drum, diesel | 750 to 1,000 kg | Two smooth vibrating drums | 950,000 to 1,900,000 | Society streets, asphalt edges, daily use |
| Mini ride-on tandem | 1 to 1.5 ton | Two smooth drums, articulated | 1,800,000 to 2,600,000 | Footpaths, car parks, small roads |
| Medium ride-on tandem | 3 to 4 ton | Two smooth drums | 2,500,000 to 3,200,000 | Housing society roads, asphalt overlays |
| Heavy single drum | 10 to 12 ton | One smooth or padfoot drum | 6,000,000 to 11,000,000 | Highway sub-base, embankments, earthworks |
| Heavy tandem | 10 to 13 ton | Two smooth drums | 8,000,000 to 14,000,000 | Highway asphalt |
| Pneumatic tyred | 16 to 18 ton | Rubber tyres | 7,000,000 to 12,000,000 | Asphalt finishing, sealing surface |
The walk-behind class is where most of our sales sit. A contractor doing streets inside a housing society, a utility company backfilling trenches, or a municipal contractor patching asphalt does not need a ride-on roller. He needs a machine that fits through the gate and goes on a pickup.
Used ride-on and heavy rollers, mostly ex-Japan and ex-Gulf Sakai, Dynapac and Bomag, sell for 30 to 60 percent of the new price depending on hours and condition. More on that below.
Types of road roller and which compacts what
Smooth drum vibratory. The drum vibrates at 50 to 70 Hz and the combination of static weight and vibration compacts granular material: sand, gravel, crushed stone, sub-base and asphalt. This is the all-round roller and the one in every walk-behind and tandem machine.
Padfoot or sheepsfoot. The drum has projecting pads that knead cohesive soil, clay and silt, which do not respond to vibration alone. Used on embankments, dam fill and clay sub-grade. Only on heavy single drum machines. If your earthworks are in Punjab clay, you need this drum, and a smooth drum will leave a crust over an uncompacted layer.
Pneumatic tyred. Rubber tyres at adjustable pressure give a kneading action that seals the asphalt surface and closes the surface texture. Used as the final pass on highway asphalt. Not needed below highway-scale work.
Static three-wheel. The old pattern with two large rear wheels and one front roll. Still found in municipal yards. Replaced by vibratory rollers everywhere that buys new.
For a walk-behind roller the drum is always smooth and vibrating. The question is only weight and engine.
New vs used vs hire: the arithmetic
Three ways to get a roller on site. Here is how we lay it out for a buyer.
Hire. A 10 ton ride-on roller hires for roughly PKR 150,000 to 250,000 a month in the Rawalpindi and Islamabad market, plus operator, diesel and transport. A walk-behind roller is difficult to hire at all because the rental yards do not stock them. Hire makes sense for a single contract with a defined end.
Used. A 10 ton Sakai or Dynapac with 6,000 to 10,000 hours sells for PKR 2,500,000 to 4,500,000. The questions are the drum bearings, the vibration eccentric, the hydraulic pump and whether the hour meter is honest. A good used heavy roller is often the right buy for a contractor who has a mechanic. A used walk-behind roller is a worse bet because the saving is smaller and the vibration bearings are usually what has failed.
New. A new walk-behind diesel roller at PKR 950,000 to 1,900,000 with a two year warranty, spares on our shelf and service on our bench, used 15 days a month on society streets, pays for itself against hire in the first year. A new medium ride-on at PKR 2,500,000 to 3,200,000 pays for itself against hire in about 14 to 18 months of use.
The honest rule: if the machine will work more than about 24 months of its life, buy. If it is for one job, hire. If it is heavy and you have a mechanic, consider used. If it is walk-behind, buy new.
Petrol vs diesel
Walk-behind rollers come with both. The petrol units, typically Honda GX or Honda-pattern engines, are lighter, easier to start cold and cheaper by PKR 150,000 to 300,000. The diesel units, typically Yanmar-pattern or Chinese single cylinder, cost more up front, burn cheaper fuel at a lower rate, and the engine lasts two or three times longer under daily use.
For a contractor who uses the roller every day, diesel. For a municipal store or a utility that uses it for backfill a few days a month, petrol is fine and the easier starting matters more.
The Mikasa walk-behind roller is the premium diesel unit in this class, with Japanese vibration bearings and the drum scraper and watering system that keep asphalt from sticking. The 750 kg walk-behind vibratory roller is the value unit for the same work.
What to check before buying
For a new walk-behind roller:
- Vibration frequency and centrifugal force. Look for 55 Hz or higher and at least 10 kN per drum. Lower figures mean more passes.
- Water tank and sprinkler bar. Essential for asphalt. Check the pump is electric, not gravity.
- Drum scrapers. Front and rear, adjustable. Without them asphalt builds up.
- Hydraulic drive versus belt drive. Hydrostatic drive on the drum gives smooth reversing and climbs ramps. Belt drive is cheaper and the belt is a consumable.
- Handle vibration isolation. An operator walking behind an unisolated handle for eight hours will not come back tomorrow.
- Lifting point. A central hook so a crane or hiab can load it onto a pickup.
For a used ride-on roller:
- Run the vibration on both drums and listen for bearing roar.
- Check the articulation joint for play.
- Look at the hydraulic hoses and the pump for weeping.
- Check the drum surface for pitting and the scrapers for wear.
- Ask for the service history and compare the hour meter to the wear on the pedals and seat.
If the layer is shallow and the area small, a plate compactor may do the job for a tenth of the price. We cover sizing in plate compactor price in Pakistan.
Spares and service
A roller lives or dies on its vibration bearings, belts and seals. For the walk-behind rollers we sell, we hold the vibration bearings, drive belts, hydraulic seals, drum scrapers, water pumps and the engine parts for the Honda-pattern and Yanmar-pattern engines in Rawalpindi. Service is on our own bench, and a courier can bring a walk-behind roller from anywhere in Pakistan.
For ride-on and heavy rollers we source parts to order for Sakai, Dynapac, Bomag and the Chinese brands, and we advise on which mechanic in your city knows the machine. New machines from us carry a two year warranty.

FAQ
Questions buyers ask us
What is the price of a road roller in Pakistan?
In 2026 a walk-behind double drum vibratory roller sells for PKR 675,000 to 1,900,000 depending on weight and brand, a medium ride-on roller of 3 to 4 tons for PKR 2,500,000 to 3,200,000, and a heavy 10 to 18 ton roller from PKR 6,000,000 upwards. These are market ranges; we quote by WhatsApp.
What is a mini road roller used for?
A walk-behind or mini roller of 500 to 1,000 kg compacts asphalt patches, pavements, trench backfill, housing society streets and the edges a big roller cannot reach. It fits through a gate, goes on a pickup, and one operator runs it. It is the most sold roller class in Pakistan.
Which roller is best for soil compaction?
For granular soils and sub-base, a smooth drum vibratory roller. For clay and cohesive fill, a padfoot or sheepsfoot drum that kneads the material. For asphalt finishing, a pneumatic tyred roller. For small areas, a plate compactor or walk-behind roller does the job.
Is it cheaper to hire or buy a road roller?
Hire rates for a 10 ton roller in Pakistan run around PKR 150,000 to 250,000 per month plus operator and fuel. If you need it for more than about 24 months of work over the life of the machine, buying wins. For a walk-behind roller, buying almost always wins because hire is hard to find.
Petrol or diesel walk-behind roller?
Diesel for daily commercial use: lower fuel cost, longer engine life, and the engine is the same family used on generators so mechanics know it. Petrol for occasional use and where the lighter weight and easier starting matter. Both are available in the 500 to 1,000 kg class.
Do you supply spares for road rollers?
Yes. For the walk-behind rollers we sell we hold vibration bearings, belts, hydraulic seals, drum scrapers, water pumps and engine parts in Rawalpindi, and service on our own bench. For ride-on rollers we source parts to order and advise on the mechanic.
